Heritage Award

In February 2004 Lieutenant Governor Léonce Bernard

presented a Heritage Award to Edgar and Brenda Dewar

on behalf of Museums & Heritage Prince Edward Island,

part of the Provincial Museum system of PEI,

using the following words:

           When Edgar and Brenda Dewar decided to turn the house that Nathaniel MacLaren built in 1868 into a bed and breakfast, they were determined to retain as much of the original as possible, both inside and out.  Bargeboard and gingerbread patterns were copied from older parts of the house as was the interior wood graining.  Kerosene light fixtures were wired for electricity; the original wood floors carefully restored.  The flowerbeds are based on Victorian staples and even the gravel in the driveway is good old PEI red  -  not that grey stuff from the mainland!  For taking the time, the effort  -  and the money  -  to restore Roseneath Bed and Breakfast as accurately as possible, we are pleased to present a Heritage Award to Edgar and Brenda Dewar.
